MARQUETTE, Mich. –The Northern Michigan men’s basketball team finishes off its non-conference portion of its schedule on Monday (Jan. 9) when it hosts Northland International University.
NMU is coming off of a tough 70-64 loss to rival Michigan Tech at home on Jan. 5. In front of its largest home crowd (802) this season, the Wildcats trailed by just two points at the half before foul trouble caught up to NMU down the stretch in the second half. MTU swept the regular season series with the win.
The ‘Cats enter Monday’s matchup at 5-7 on the season and 2-4 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
Members of the National Christian College Athletic Association, NIU enters the contest at 6-6 on the season. The Pioneers last took to the court on Dec. 10, snapping a two-game losing streak with a 78-61 win over Great Lakes Christian College. NIU’s roster features six freshmen and only two upperclassman (one junior and one senior). The Pioneers have played one other NCAA DII opponent this season, falling 93-51 to UM-Crookston.
NMU is 13-0 all-time against the Pioneers, dating back to the 1995-96 season. The two teams last met during the 2008-09 season, with the ‘Cats taking a 66-41 win in Marquette.
Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
