MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan women’s basketball team will look to start 2012 the way they closed out 2011 with a win, this time against rival Michigan Tech, when they host the Huskies on Jan. 5 at the Berry Events Center.
NMU look’s to even the season series at one-game a piece following a 72-49 loss to MTU on Dec. 3 in Houghton to open conference play.
The ‘Cats come into the matchup at 6-6 on the season and 2-3 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. NMU is fresh off of a 78-54 non-conference win over Finlandia University back on Dec. 28. Freshman center Courtney Lemon and freshman guard Eryn Maday each scored 12 points to lead the ‘Cats in their final non-conference game of the season.
The Huskies enter the contest at 8-3 on the season and 3-2 in the GLIAC. MTU snapped a two-game skid with a 70-52 win over Lewis University back on Dec. 30.
MTU is paced by junior guard Sam Hoyt. The junior leads the Huskies in scoring with an average of 13.4 points and 2.3 assists per game.
The ‘Cats lead the series all-time 47-36 with the series dating back to the 1975-76 season. The Huskies however have won 18 of the last 20 meetings since the 2002-03 season.
Thursday’s game is part of a doubleheader, with the women’s game set to tipoff at 5:30 p.m.
