MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan men’s basketball team will travel north this weekend to Houghton to face rival Michigan Tech to open Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play.
The Wildcats (2-3) are fresh off of a 91-58 victory over NAIA II University of Michigan-Dearborn on Monday (Nov. 28). Senior guard DeAndre Taylor and sophomore forward Matthew Craggs each scored 17 points and combined for nine rebounds, netting four and five respectively, to lead NMU.
MTU enters the contest at 3-2 after recently competing in the Bemidji State Invitational over the Thanksgiving weekend. The Huskies defeated Southwest Minnesota State before falling to tournament host Bemidji State.
The Huskies are led by sophomore guard Austin Armga. The sophomore leads the team in scoring with an average of 12 points per game. MTU is coached by Kevin Luke. Now in his 18th season as head of the Huskies program, Luke is the winningest coach in MTU history.
NMU leads the all-time series 128-70 with the series dating back to the 1911-12 season. MTU has won 11 of the last 20 meetings.
Tipoff is set for 3 p.m., Saturday (Dec.3) in Houghton.
