Women's Basketball Signs Two Players
MARQUETTE, Mich. -- The Northern Michigan women’s basketball team has announced the signings of two recruits to national letters of intent.
Anna Liewen is a 5-11 guard/forward from Brookfield Central (Wisc.) High School. She averaged 12.8 points per game, 9.1 rebounds per game and 3.5 assists per game as a junior. She was selected First Team all Greater Metro Conference, Second Team All-Waukesha County Team and Honorable Mention Milwaukee All-Suburban Team as a junior. She was also selected to the First Team GMC Scholastic Honors Team.
Alyson Matkovich is a 6-0 forward from Milwaukee Pius XI (Wisc.) High School. She averaged 9.7 points per game and 5.2 rebounds per game as a junior. Matkovich helped lead her team to a WIAA Division 1 state championship in 2009-10 and a semi-final appearance in 2010-11. She also helped guide her team to back to back Classic 8 Conference Championships and a combined record of 51-5 the last two seasons.
"Both Anna and Alyson are very athletic and strong basketball players that come from extremely successful basketball programs,” said NMU head coach Troy Mattson. “They both are very hard workers with a great understanding of the game and they will both have a chance to contribute right away."
