MARQUETTE, Mich. – After splitting its two games over the weekend, the Northern Michigan soccer team will host their final game of the 2011 season. The ‘Cats will host U.P. rival, Michigan Tech.
NMU fell to Saginaw Valley State, 2-0 on Friday (Oct. 21), but were able to defeat Northwood, 4-3 in a thrilling double overtime game on Sunday (Oct. 23). The ‘Cats are 9-5-3 overall and 7-5-2 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. NMU is third in the GLIAC behind Grand Valley State and Ferris State.
NMU will close out the 2011 regular season on Friday (Oct. 28) as it takes on Michigan Tech at home. The Huskies are 7-8-1 overall and 5-8-1 in conference play. Tech also played host to Northwood and SVSU over the weekend. MTU defeated Northwood 5-1 on Friday (Oct. 21) and shut out SVSU 3-0 on Sunday (Oct. 23).
The last time these two teams met was on Sept. 7 at MTU. The ‘Cats took the game 3-1. NMU has already qualified for the upcoming GLIAC tournament. NMU, along with Grand Valley, Saginaw Valley and Findlay, is the only other team to qualify for every GLIAC tournament.
The game is set for 4 p.m. on Friday at the Outdoor Fields of the Superior Dome. It will be NMU’s senior day. Wildcat seniors are: Jessica Baker, Brittany Buckingham, Caitlin Glendenning, Aurora Jackson, Jessica Lusardi, Chelsea Lyons, Missy Mohr and Kylee St. Arnauld.
