MARQUETTE– Aghasi Manukyan, a former World Cup Champion, has been named assistant coach for USA Wrestling’s Greco-Roman program at the United States Olympic Education Center.
“I am trying to teach the wrestlers to practice like they are in a competition,” said Manukyan.
Manukyan brings to the team knowledge, training and experience acquired through his participation onthe USSR and Armenia National teams. In 1996, Manukyan competed with the Armenian team in the Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Ga.. He previously coached for the World Gold Wrestling Club and for the National Junior Team of Armenia.
“He is getting to know the wrestlers at the moment,” said Greco-Roman head coach Rob Hermann. “He wants to leave his mark on this program and it is a good change for the wrestlers to hear another voice in the room.
