MARQUETTE, Mich. – For the second time in two weeks, a Northern Michigan volleyball player has been named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference North Division “Player of the Week.” Junior middle-hitter Sami Vierk (West Lafayette, Ind.) was honored after leading the ‘Cats to two conference wins last week.
Vierk led the ‘Cats to a 2-1 record last week with wins over Ohio Dominican (3-1) and Tiffin (3-0) and a non-conference loss to Minnesota-Duluth (3-0). Vierk posted 33 kills and a .348 hitting percentage last week. She also had eight blocks, five digs and averaged an outstanding 5.57 points per set. Vierk currently ranks eighth in the GLIAC with a .310 hitting percentage for the year.
The 10-6 (8-2, GLIAC) ‘Cats host rival Michigan Tech this week before heading to the GLIAC/GLVC Crossover Tournament this weekend.
