MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University soccer team will hit the road this weekend as they face the University of Findlay and Tiffin University. This is the last time the ‘Cats will be on the road for the season, as they will play their last five games at home.
NMU shut out Lake Erie 4-0 last Friday (Sept. 30), and tied 0-0 with Ashland on Sunday (Oct. 2). The ‘Cats are 6-2-3 overall and 4-2-2 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. NMU advanced a place in the GLIAC north standings, as they moved up from three to two this week, placing them right behind Grand Valley State.
Northern will open up the weekend at the University of Findlay beginning at 4 p.m. on Friday (Oct. 7). The Oilers are 3-3-1 overall and 4-5-1 in the GLIAC after being defeated by Tiffin 2-1 on Sunday (Oct. 2).
Findlay is led by junior Megan Gallaway. Gallaway has five points on 13 shots for the season for a shot percentage of .154. Two of her points came in the game against Northern Kentucky (Sept. 2), for a game high. She has also recorded two goals for the season. Goalie Alicia Tutino has also led the way for the Oilers with 25 saves in eight games this season.
After Friday’s game, the ‘Cats will travel to Tiffin, Ohio to take on the Dragons on Sunday (Oct. 9). Tiffin swept both of their games last weekend as they defeated Malone University 2-1 on (Sept. 30) and Findlay 4-0 on (Oct. 2). With those wins, the Dragons improved to 6-3-2 overall and 5-1-1 overall for the season. The team is currently on a five game winning streak; with their last loss to Notre Dame College on Sept. 13. The last time these two teams faced each other was on Nov. 5, 2010 in the GLIAC Semifinal game. Tiffin won the game, 2-0 on the campus of Grand Valley State University.
