‘Cats Shutout Lake Erie on Homecoming Weekend

MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan soccer team got back to its winning ways this afternoon (Sept. 30) defeating Lake Erie College 4-0. 

With the win, the ‘Cats improve to 6-2-2 overall and 4-2-1 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.  The Storm fall to 1-9 overall and 0-7 in the GLIAC.

NMU started the scoring early, as KC McCary scored her first goal of the season at 7:19.

The ‘Cats offensive attack came out of the half and chipped in three more late goals.

Kim Rietveld scored her second goal of the season less than 20 minutes into the second half to put the ‘Cats up by two.

Kylee St. Arnauld then followed up with her first goal of the season off of a corner kick at the 73 minute mark and ten minutes later, Nicole Musi knocked in her first goal of the season as well to put a cap on the day’s scoring.

NMU goalkeeper Jessica Baker made four saves on the afternoon.  Megan Baldacci stopped seven of the 11 shots she faced on goal for Lake Erie.

The four goals scored by the ‘Cats today are a season high.  Of the four goals scored today, three were from first time scorers and all four were unassisted.

NMU concludes the weekend on Sunday (Oct. 2) when they take on the Ashland Eagles at home.  Game time is noon.
