MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan volleyball team returns to the road this weekend as they continue their three week road trip.

The ‘Cats broke even last weekend, falling to Ashland in three sets on Friday (Sept. 16) and then dominating Lake Erie in three sets on Saturday (Sept. 17).  NMU is now 4-5 overall and 3-2 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

NMU opens the weekend on Friday (Sept. 23) at Lake Superior State.  The Lakers come into the weekend riding a four-match losing streak and stand at 2-7 overall and 1-4 in the GLIAC.  LSSU was swept in all three of their matches a week ago, falling to Grand Valley State, Ferris State and Saginaw Valley State.

The Lakers are led offensively by outside-hitter Jeanna Radzinski.  The sophomore is hitting .179 with 60 kills on the season.  Head coach Ben Kaszeta is in his first year with the program.

The ‘Cat swept the Lakers last season, winning both matches (3-1) and (3-0) respectively.  NMU has dominated the series, leading 67-16-1.

NMU then heads across the bridge and south on Saturday to face the Northwood Timberwolves.  Northwood comes in after falling victim to the same three teams as LSSU.  The Timberwolves dropped all three matches this past weekend, falling to 4-6 overall and 2-3 in the GLIAC.

The Timberwolves are led by outside-hitter Zina Liubymova.  The sophomore is hitting .147 with 89 kills.  Head coach Tim Koth is in his seventh season with Northwood.  During his tenure, he has guided the Timberwolves to a 102-77 mark.

NMU split the two meetings last year against Northwood, with both teams winning at home.  The ‘Cats own the series record at 33-23.
