BIG RAPIDS, Mich. – The No. 13 Northern Michigan soccer team remained unbeaten with a 0-0 tie after 110 minutes of action at Ferris State.
“It was a typical game between us and Ferris,” said NMU head coach Matt Granstrand. “It was a physical game like it always is. It was an even game and both teams had good chances.”
Goalkeeper Jessica Baker had a shutout for NMU with four saves. The GLIAC “Player of the Week” had her third shutout of the season and six of her career.
The Wildcats move to 4-0-2 overall and 2-0-1 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. Ferris State is now 1-4-1 overall and 1-1-1 in the GLIAC. The two teams tied twice last year in the regular season. NMU defeated the Bulldogs 4-3 in the first round of the GLIAC Tournament.
Amelia Johnson and Chelsea Lyons both had two shots on goal for NMU.
The Wildcats play No. 19 Grand Valley State Lakers on Sunday (Sept. 18) at noon.
“We have to play good soccer against Grand Valley,” added Granstrand. “We can’t play as physical. They have a beautiful field and it’ll be fun. We have nothing to lose.”
