MARQUETTE, Mich. – The No. 13 ranked Northern Michigan soccer team hits the road again this weekend, as it continues a six-game road trip and takes on two strong north division foes.
The ‘Cats are 4-0-1 overall and 2-0-0 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Conference. NMU is coming off a 1-0 win this past weekend at Ohio Dominican, where freshmen forward Tevun Sellers the game’s lone goal 26 minutes into the second half.
NMU opens the weekend on Friday (Sept. 16) at Ferris State. The Bulldogs lost to Madonna University on Wednesday (Sept. 14) 3-0. FSU is 1-3 overall and 1-1 in the GLIAC. The Bulldogs are led by Bri Borgman, who has eight points (3 goals, 2 points) this season.
The ‘Cats was 1-0-2 last season against the Bulldogs. NMU leads the all-time series 9-6-2.
The ‘Cats close the two-game weekend in Allendale when they take on No. 19 Grand Valley State on Sunday (Sept. 18). The defending national champion Lakers captured their first win of the season a week ago defeating Saginaw Valley State 1-0. GVSU is 1-0-2 overall and 1-0 in the GLIAC. The Lakers are led by Kayla Addison, who has two of the Lakers three goals.
The ‘Cats split meetings with the Lakers last season, with both schools winning on their home turf. NMU’s victory was just the second in the series history against the Lakers. GVSU leads the series 17-2-1.
