ASHLAND, Wis. – The Northern Michigan University cross country team finished second overall for the second week in a row. The Wildcats finished second of six schools at the Northland College Invite. Minnesota Duluth (40) defeated NMU (41) by one place, followed by Michigan Tech (47), Bethany Lutheran (130), Wisconsin Superior (137) and Finlandia (167).
Rita Woitas was the top finisher for NMU in fifth-place. She finished the six-kilometer race at the Chequamegon Bay Golf Club in 19:51.9.
Morgan Place (19:01.6) of UMD won the race, followed by Christina Mishica (19:35.6) of Michigan Tech.
Larissa Halonen was seventh (19:56.6), Nora Kiilunen was eighth (19:57.6) and Mandy Dye (20:03.9) was tenth to round out Wildcats in the top 10.
Alicia Romano (11th), Chelsea Farquhar (12th) and Olivia Howard (13th) rounded out the scoring for the ‘Cats.
Katie Granquist (15th) and Olivia Juntila (18th) also placed in the top 20.
NMU travels to the St. Olaf Invite in Northfield, Minn. next weekend.
