
BAY CITY, Mich. – The women’s volleyball coaches of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference selected Northern Michigan first in the North Division in its preseason poll. The Wildcats received four first-place votes and had two more points than Grand Valley (34-32).
Also in the North Division, Ferris State University was third with 25 points, Saginaw Valley State University was slotted fourth with 22, Northwood University was tabbed fifth with 15, Lake Superior State University was sixth with 10 and Michigan Technological was seventh with nine.
In the South Division, Hillsdale College was picked to finish first with 36 point. In second place, with 29 points, is Ashland University. Wayne State University is third with 26 points, the University of Findlay is fourth with 23, Tiffin University is fifth with 15, Ohio Dominican University is sixth with an 11-point total and Lake Erie College is seventh with seven.
Three GLIAC teams are also ranked in the American Volleyball Coaches Association Top 25. Grand Valley is ranked eighth, Hillsdale is tenth and Northern Michigan 25th.
NMU opens the season in St. Paul, Minn. at the defending National Champion Concordia’s tournament. The ‘Cats open the home schedule with a three-game home stand on Sept. 9, 10, 11 against Saginaw Valley State, Grand Valley State and Ferris State.
