HILLSDALE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University track and field team competed in the 45th annual Hillsdale College Gina Relays on Friday and Saturday. Five new school records were set on the weekend as the ‘Cats competed against a wide variety schools from the Midwest including numerous Division I teams.
Jaime Roberts reset her pole vaulting record with a jump of 12-1.5 to tie her for second overall as the top Wildcat finisher. Bailey Franklin had two fourth-place finishes in the triple jump and high jump. Franklin’s triple jump of 37-9.5 was a new school record. Samara White finished sixth in the long jump with a record setting jump of 18-3.25.
Catherine Angeli had a fourth-place finish in the 100 meter dash, resetting her school record time at 12.17. NMU’s 4x100 relay team finished fourth with a new record time of 47.72. Members of the squad were Samara White, Brittnee Balbierz, Katy Lafayette and Angeli.
Other top 10 finishers for NMU were Angeli (8th) in the 200 dash, Delaney Lovett (9th) in the triple jump and the 4x400 relay team (9th). Katrina Lamansky, Colby West, Kristina Mattson and Sydney Schultz were on the relay squad.
Melissa Christensen had an 11th place finish in the 100 hurdles and the high jump and a 17th place finish in the triple jump. Mariah Beaman was 13th in the javelin and 20th in the shot put. Brooke Granquist was 16th in the triple jump and 18th in the high jump.
Delaney Lovett was 19th in the long jump while Roberts finished 23rd. Samara White (13th), Brittnee Balbierz (19th) and Katy Lafayette (23rd) finished in the top 25 in the 100 dash. Katie Searles was 15th in the javelin.
Sydney Schultz was 24th in the 400 while hurdles Stephanie Hahn (25th in the 100) and Colby West (25th in the 400) finished in the top 25 for NMU.
NMU travels to Midland next weekend to compete in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships on the campus of Northwood University.
