MARQUETTE – The United States Olympic Education Center selected Chris Lenahen (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.) as the February Athlete of the Month for his performance at the 2011 U.S.A. Weightlifting National Junior Championships in Houston, Texas Feb. 18-20.
Lenahen lifted 128 kilograms in the snatch followed by a clean and jerk of 172 kg giving him a combined total weight of 300 kg. Along with winning the silver medal in the 105 kg weight class, Lenahen achieved a total personal record.
“Chris is a dedicated student-athlete with a focus on improvement that rivals the best,” said weightlifting coach Andy Tysz. “He keeps his priorities of training and academics in the forefront of his life and his recent performances have reflected that.”
Lenahen is a sophomore at Northern Michigan University pursuing a biology degree and has been named to the USOEC All-Academic team for three consecutive semesters.
