BAY CITY, Mich. – Jared Benson of the Northern Michigan University men’s basketball teams has been selected to the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference North Division second team.
Benson—a 6-10, junior center from Carney, Mich.—led the 2010-11 Wildcats in scoring, rebounding, blocks and field goal percentage. Benson scored 366 points for an average of 14.1 per game which was good for 15th in the conference. He pulled down 171 rebounds for an average of 6.6, making him ninth in the league. He shot 58.7 percent from the field for fourth in the league and had was third in the GLIAC in blocks with 41.
Benson scored in double figures in 22 of the 26 games. He had five 20-point games, including 24 points over Northland and a 23 point, 13 rebound game in a win over Northwood at home.
NMU finished the season 9-17 overall and 4-15 in the GLIAC. The Wildcats finished strong, winning two of its last three games.
