MARQUETTE, Mich. –Three members of the Northern Michigan University women’s Nordic ski team were named to the Central Collegiate Ski Association (CCSA) all-conference team. The Wildcats placed two members on the first team and one on the second. Head Coach Sten Fjeldheim was also named CCSA women’s coach of the year.

Christina Turman and Marie Helen Soderman were selected to the first team. Named to the second team was Monica Markvardsen. Gillis was named to the first team last season while Soderman and Markvardsen were each on the second team a year ago.

“It’s awesome to be nominated and named Coach of the Year by your peers,” Fjeldheim said. “We had a great group of girls who trained very hard and made my job easy. It means a lot and I’m very proud of our program.”

The All-CCSA teams recognized season-long achievement and were based on points given out in each race. The top 20 finishers received Super Tour Points (30-25-21-18-16-15-14, etc.) for each race and the points were added up to get the teams. The top five point-getters made the first tam, while the next five were named to the second team.

In the team’s most recent races at the NCAA Regional Monica Markvarsen led the way for the in the 10k classic race as she finished third in 33:43.1. Marie Soderman was two back in fifth. Christina Turman finished 23rd.

Turman finished second in the 5k freestyle, Soderman took ninth and Markvardsen finished 12th.
