MARQUETTE, Mich. – Four members of the Northern Michigan University men’s Nordic ski team were named to the Central Collegiate Ski Association (CCSA) all-conference team. The Wildcats placed three members on the first team and one on the second.
Andy Liebner, Martin Banerud and Erik Soderman were selected to the first team. Named to the second team was Chris Bowler for the second year in a row.
“I think it means a lot to our athletes to earn these honors,” NMU head coach Sten Fjeldheim said. “They’ve worked extremely hard in the season as well as the offseason to get better, and we are very proud of what they have accomplished.”
The All-CCSA teams recognized season-long achievement and were based on points given out in each race. The top 20 finishers received Super Tour Points (30-25-21-18-16-15-14, etc.) for each race and the points were added up to get the teams. The top five point-getters made the first team, while the next five were named to the second team.
In the team’s most recent races at the NCAA Regional Banerud and Liebner finished first and second in both the 10k classic and 10k freestyle. Erik Soderman was third in the freestyle and 12th in the classic. Chris Bowler finished fourth in the classic and 11th in the freestyle.
