JENISON, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University swimming and diving team had solid day of final competition at the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships. The Wildcats entered the day 16 points behind Lewis and gained the points to end the meet tied for seventh in the conference with the Flyers.
Olga Budiansky, Gaby Alzaga, Kelli Vander Baan and Alison Black all had top 10 finishes for the Wildcats in their final meet of the season.
“We swam great today,” NMU head coach Heidi Voigt said. “Gaining ground on Lewis for seventh place was a lot of fun.”
Budiansky had the top finish on the weekend for NMU as she was third in the 200 yard breaststroke with a time of 2:21.06. Alzaga finished fourth in the 200 yard backstroke in a time of 2:04.33. Vander Baan finished seventh in the 3 meter dive with a score of 391.55 and Black was 10th in the event.
Other top 20 finishes for NMU were Lindsay Stedman (12th), Stephanie Rogaczewski (14th) and Jessica Linnen (17th) in the 1,650 yard freestyle. Gena Haas was 18th in the 200 yard butterfly. Lauren Cockels finished 12th in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 53.30 and Kelsey Sipple was 19th. Jenny Gallagher (14th) and Jessica Linen (20th) also swam well in the 200 yard breaststroke. Katie Lochart (16th) and Breanne Bajo (17th) finished in the top 20 in the 3 meter dive.
