'Cats Finish Day Three of GLIACs

JENISON, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University swimming and diving team finished day three at the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships.

“We swam great today. We’re only 16 points behind Lewis after the last event and we hope to gain some ground on them tomorrow,” NMU head coach Heidi Voigt said.

Gaby Alzaga was the top finisher for the ‘Cats as she was sixth in the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 57.51.

NMU’s 800 yard freestyle relay team of Gaby Alzaga, Lindsay Stedman, Olga Budiansky and Kelsey Sipple finished in seventh place with a time of 8:03.37.

Budiansky finished eighth in the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:07.79. Jenny Gallagher (1:10.21) also got some points for NMU as she finished 14th in the event.

Lauren Cockels finished won the consolation heat in the 100 yard butterfly for ninth place (58:48).

NMU is currently in eighth place and 16 points behind Lewis. The ‘Cats continue competition Saturday at the Jenison Aquatic Center.
