SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan women’s basketball team was defeated by Lake Superior State, 68-46, Thursday (Feb. 10) from Bud Cooper Gymnasium.
Cassy Schemberger scored a game-high 20 points for the Lakers as Lake Superior State (15-6, 12-3 GLIAC) led from start to finish. Schemberger had a game-high 23 points in the first meeting between the two teams in Marquette.
NMU cut a 27-point deficit to 17 with a 10-0 run sparked by bench players Erin Powers, Callie Youngman and Nicole Borne. The 3-pointer Borne hit was her first points of the season.
NMU is 9-13 overall and 4-11 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Conference. Chelsea Lyons was the lone Wildcat in double figures with 10 points. Hillary Bowling scored nine and Staci Beckel had eight.
NMU shot 32 percent from the field and was outrebounded 38-25.
The Wildcats are off until next week when they host Lake Erie and Ashland from the Berry Events Center.
