Swimmers Head to GLIACs

MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University swimming and diving team will take part in the 2011 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Championships, Feb. 9-12 in Jenison, Mich. The meet will be co-hosted by Grand Valley State and Lewis University and feature teams from Ashland, Findlay, Hillsdale, Indianapolis, Lake Erie, and Wayne State.

Some key performers for NMU look forward to are Ana Alzaga in the 100 meter Backstroke. Her best time of the season has been clocked in at 58.20. Olga Budiansky will be another swimmer to watch, especially in the 200 meter Breastroke. Kelli Vander Baan has already qualified for the NCAA Nationals in San Antonio, Texas and looks to take home the conference title in both diving events.

Action gets underway at 4 p.m. on Thursday (Feb. 9) with the 1000 yd. Freestyle, and 200 yd. Medley Relay at the Jenison High School Aquatics Center.
