NMU Women Play a Pair of GLIAC South Opponents

MARQUETTE, Mich.– The Northern Michigan women’s basketball team will be on the road this weekend for a pair of Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference South division games at Wayne State and Findlay. Thursday (Feb. 3), the ‘Cats play at Wayne State at 8 p.m. and Saturday (Feb. 5), they play at Findlay. Tip off is set for 3 p.m.

NMU split a pair of GLIAC games at home against Hillsdale and Northwood. Kelsey Campbell hit a late 3-pointer to give NMU the lead over Hillsdale as the ‘Cats held on to win and snap their two-game losing streak. NMU gave up a 27-point first half lead in Saturday’s loss to Northwood. Chelsea Lyons scored 33 points, Steffani Stoeger had 32 and Staci Beckel 27 on the weekend.

Wayne State is 5-13 overall and 5-7 in the GLIAC. The Warriors victories have come over Ashland, Ohio Dominican, Tiffin and Lake Erie. Tyler Hardey (14.6) leads the team in scoring followed by Kiara Smith (9.7). The Warriors have won two of their last three games.

Findlay is 14-4 overall and 9-2 in the conference. Hillsdale and Tiffin are the two GLIAC teams to defeat the Oilers this season. The Oilers have won three in a row and are lead in scoring by Clare Aubry (15.3), Laura Bardall (14.6) and Kayla Brown (12.0).
