NMU Skiers Dominate Freestyle

MARQUETTE, Mich.  – The Northern Michigan University Nordic Ski teams finished up the weekend in Houghton competing inthe 2011 USSA Super Tour, hosted by Michigan Tech University. Both teams dominated the field of competition in Sunday afternoon’s freestyle races

In the men’s 15k race NMU took the top three positions led by Martin Banerud (0:41:03.9). Andy Liebner (0:41:29.4) and Erik Soderman (0:42:13.0) took second and third respectively. Kevin Cutts finished in fifth place overall with a time of 0:42:33.8 and Chris Bowler rounded out the top 10 clocking in at 0:43:47.3.

Christina Turman was the Wildcats top finisher in the 10k race placing second overall with a time of 0:33:43.7. Monica Markvardsen finished in third at 0:33:47.3. Marie Soderman (0:34:07.7) took sixth place, Ingrid Fjeldheim (0:34:29.0) placed eighth and Jordyn Ross (0:34:46.8) took tenth place to round out the top 10 for NMU.

The teams will now rest up for a week before competing at the CCSA Championships Feb. 12-13 in Ishpeming.
