KALAMAZOO, Michigan – The Western Michigan University Broncos proved to be too hot to handle as they defeated the Northern Michigan University Wildcats, 6-1, on Saturday, January 29. The Broncos extend their win streak to 11 games, the longest in the nation and now boast a 14-6-8 overall record and 8-5-7-4 record in the CCHA. The Wildcats fall to 11-13-4 overall, and 9-9-2-0 in the CCHA. The ‘Cats will look to rebound when they host the Lake Superior State Lakers in a two-game series on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 4-5.
Greger Hanson opened the scoring for the ‘Cats with a power play goal, his scored his third goal of the season, after 17:44 of play in the first period. As the first period ended, so did the Wildcats scoring for the remainder of the night as the Broncos went on to score six unanswered goals in the second and third periods. All six Bronco goals were scored on Jared Coreau at even strength. Coreau ended the night with 44 saves on 50 shots. Bronco goaltender Jerry Kuhn ended the night with 17 saves on 18 shots.
As the Wildcats return to Marquette they will look to gain points in conference play as eight games remain in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association regular season. The ‘Cats will host Lake Superior (Feb. 4-5), travel to Michigan State (Feb. 11-12) and Bowling Green (Feb. 18-19), and then close out at home against the University of Michigan (Feb. 25-26).
