MARQUETTE, Mich.--Two Northern Michigan University hockey players have been honored by the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) for their play in the sweep of the Ferris State Bulldogs over the weekend (Jan. 21-22). Erik Spady was named the Defensive Player of the Week while teammate Reid Ellingson was selected as the Reebok Goaltender of the Week.
Spady, a senior, defenseman from Deroche, B.C., picked up two more assists for the season against the Bulldogs. His first came on Friday night in the 2-1 overtime win where he helped senior Justin Florek score his ninth goal on the season. Spady’s second assist came in Saturday night’s 3-1 win where he assisted junior Andrew Cherniwchan's opening goal of the game. For the season Spady has played in 21 games to log his six assists.
Ellingson, the junior, goaltender from Cloquet, Minn. only allowed one goal in each contest against the Bulldogs. Friday night he made 31 saves and Saturday night he registered 32 saves. Ellingson earned one of the three star awards for each game. Currently for the season, Ellingson is6-3-2 and is ranked second overall in the CCHA in save percentage (.922), after recording the 63 saves against the Bulldogs.
