MARQUETTE, Mich. –The Northern Michigan women’s basketball team (6-4, 1-2 GLIAC) travels to Ohio to try and win the final game of 2010 and the first game of 2011. The Wildcats take on Ohio Dominican for the first time on Thursday (Dec. 30) at 7:30 p.m. and then travel to Tiffin after the New Year to take on the Dragons on Sunday (Jan. 2) at 3 p.m.
NMU finished 2-2 on its four-game home stand with wins over UW-Parkside and Ferris State. Junior forward Staci Beckel was selected Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference North Division player of the week. Against Grand Valley, Beckel tallied 18 points, five rebounds, and a steal. Against Ferris State, the Wildcats earned their first conference victory of the year as she recorded 20 points and three rebounds. For the week Beckel averaged 19.0 points and 4.0 rebounds per game while shooting 61.5 percent. Beckel leads the team, averaging 13.7 points per game.
Ohio Dominican is 1-8 and 0-5 in the GLIAC. The Panthers enter the game on a six-game losing streak. Summer Hale leads the team in scoring, averaging 9.6 points per game.
Tiffin is 6-4 and 2-3 in the conference. NMU has defeated Tiffin in all four of the previous matchups. The Dragons are 1-4 in their last five games after starting the season on a five-game winning streak. The Dragons have three players that average double figures led by Mandy Jaeb at 15.0 points per game.
