MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan men’s basketball team (5-5, 0-3 GLIAC) looks to end its two-game losing streak and pick up its first conference win of the season as the Wildcats travel to Ohio for a pair of games over the weekend. NMU plays at Ohio Dominican on Thursday (Dec. 30) at 5:30 p.m. and Tiffin on Sunday (Jan. 2) at 1 p.m.
NMU travels to Columbus, Ohio to take on Ohio Dominican. The ‘Cats have never played Ohio Dominican. The Panthers are in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference for the first time in 2010-11. The Panthers are 2-8 on the season and 0-5 in the conference. The Panthers have three players averaging double figures, led by Aaron Gibbs at 11.2 points per game.
Tiffin is 2-7 on the season and 0-5 in the GLIAC. The Dragons play St. Francis (Ill.) on Thursday. NMU is 4-0 all-time against Tiffin and won 70-56 and 82-72 last season. The Dragons are led in scoring by Joe Graessle at 15.8 points per game and have two other player averaging double figures.
NMU’s Jared Benson leads the Wildcats in scoring, averaging 17.7 points per game, good for seventh in the GLIAC. He is second in the GLIAC in field goal percentage, shooting 62.9 percent from the floor.
NMU finished 2-3 on its five-game home stand. The ‘Cats play their next three games on the road as they travel to Michigan Tech on Jan. 6.
