MARQUETTE, Mich. – Northern Michigan junior forward Staci Beckel (Austin, Minn./UW-Green Bay) has been selected as the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference North Division Player of the Week.
Beckel led the Wildcats to a 1-1 record this past week against Grand Valley State and Ferris State. Against GVSU, Beckel tallied 18 points, five rebounds, and a steal. Against Ferris State, the Wildcats earned their first conference victory of the year as she recorded 20 points and three rebounds. For the week Beckel averaged 19.0 points and 4.0 rebounds per game while shooting 61.5 percent.
Beckel leads the team in points per game, averaging 13.7. She has scored in double figures in eight of the 10 NMU games this season. Beckel has also made seven of her 16 three point attempts and is second on the team with 57 rebounds.
NMU is 6-4 on the season and 1-2 in the GLIAC. The ‘Cats are off until after Christmas when they travel to Ohio to take on Ohio Dominican on Dec. 30 and Tiffin on Jan. 2.
