MARQUETTE – USOEC weightlifters competed at the American Open in Cincinnati, Ohio, Dec. 10-12. The team earned one silver and two bronze medals.
Northern Michigan University junior Josh Barnett (Sanford, Fla.) earned a silver medal in the 56 kilogram division by lifting 75 kilograms in the snatch and 109 kg in the clean-and-jerk, finishing with a total of 184 kg.
Senior Sara Cowles (Daytona Beach, Fla.) competed at 58 kg and placed third. She lifted 73 kg and 93 kg to earn a total of 166 kg.
Sophomore Matt Fraser (Colchester, Vt.) also placed third. He lifted 130 kg and 145 kg for a total of 275 kg in the 77 kg division.
Other USOEC competitors finished as follows: graduate student Collin Ito (Vista, Calif.) and senior Allie Henry (River Falls, Wis.) placed fourth at +105 kg and 69 kg, respectively; junior Robin Feuerman (Altamonte Springs, Fla.) placed fifth at 69 kg; freshman Patricia Park (Rochester Hills, Mich.) and junior Brandon Jackson (Orlando, Fla.) placed sixth at 48 kg and 105 kg, respectively; graduate student Breanne Carlson placed seventh at 53 kg; and sophomore Chris Lenahen (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.) placed eighth at 94 kg.
USOEC weightlifters compete next at the National Junior Championships Feb. 16-20 in Houston, Texas.
