Gron and Higby CCHA Players of the Week

FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. – Northern Michigan University Wildcats Tyler Gron and Erik Higby have been named this week’s players of the week for the Central Collegiate Hockey Association for their performances against Western Michigan University this past weekend (Dec. 3-4). Gron is named Offensive Player of the Week, and Higby is named Rookie Player of the Week.

Gron, the Spruce Grove, Alberta, native scored one goal on Friday night (Dec. 3) in the 3-1 defeat over the Broncos. His goal came at 4:08 into the first period. He also finished the game with an assist. In Saturday night’s (Dec. 4) game, Gron recorded two goals, during a five-minute penalty the Broncos incurred late in the first period for checking from behind.  Gron’s goals came at 15:05 and 18:55 in the first period in the 4-4 tie against the Broncos.

Higby, the CCHA Rookie Player of the Week also recorded a goal and an assist in Friday (Dec. 3) night’s game against the Broncos. The freshman from New Braunfels, Texas, scored his goal with just 2:53 into the first period of the game. His assist came on the first goal of the game to Phil Fox, with 29 seconds of play into the first period.

This is the third consecutive week NMU has had a CCHA player of the week for the 2010-11 season.
