MARQUETTE, Mich.- The Northern Michigan University women’s basketball team will return to the Berry Events Center this Saturday (Dec. 4) to take on the Michigan Tech Huskies. The game will be the first in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) for both teams. Due to new GLIAC rules, the women’s game will take place at 1p.m., with the men’s game at 11 a.m.
Troy Mattson’s wildcats look to continue its winning streak this weekend. The ‘Cats (4-2 overall) have had three consecutive wins against Finlandia University, Concordia University, and Southwest Minnesota State. NMU’s most recent victory (63-57) came at the Radisson Roseville Thanksgiving Classic against Southwest Minnesota State. For the game, Erin Powers earned her second double-double of the season with 14 points and 10 rebounds. The ‘Cats shot 48 percent and outrebounded their opponent, 36-31.
The Huskies (3-1) enter this week’s match up after a loss to Concordia St. Paul last weekend. The 78-70 loss was the first of the 2010-11 season for the No. 14 ranked husky squad. MTU finished the game with making only 9-of-18 free throws.
There will be a craft show in the Superior Dome on Saturday morning. Fans are encouraged to arrive early for preferred parking and to purchase tickets in advance. Game time is at 11 a.m. because of hockey’s home series with Western Michigan.
