MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University women's basketball team looks to bounce back from its season opening loss to Minnesota-Duluth as it travels to Quincy, Ill. to participate in the Quincy University Tipoff Tournament. The Wildcats open the tournament, Friday (Nov. 19) with Missouri Western State at 6 p.m. (Eastern).
NMU played it season opener at UMD Monday (Nov. 15) night, losing to the Bulldogs, 67-51. Kellie Rietveld tied a career high with 18 points. Chelsea Lyons scored 12 points in her NMU debut and Steffani Stoeger added 10 points.
The Griffons are from St. Joseph, Mo. and have yet to play a regular season game. They were 1-1 in exhibition games. NMU has never played Missouri Western St. The Griffons play in the Mid-American Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) and finished with an overall record of 7-20 a year ago and 5-11 in the MIAA play for an eleventh place finish.
The winner of Friday’s first semifinal game will take on the winner of the second game between Quincy and Upper Iowa University, Saturday (Nov. 20). The consolation game is set for 4 p.m. while the championship game is at 6 p.m.
