First Home Game for MenÂ’s Basketball and Doug Lewis

MARQUETTE, Mich. – Doug Lewis will be on the sidelines in the Berry Events Center for the first time, trying to lead his team to its second win in a row. Saturday (Nov. 20), the Northern Michigan University men’s basketball team hosts Spring Arbor in its home opener. Game time is set for 1 p.m.

The Wildcats split a pair of games at the Sailfish Classic in West Palm Beach, Fla. last weekend to open the season. Friday, the ‘Cats lost to tournament host Palm Beach Atlantic, 77-60. The ‘Cats defeated Lynn University, 69-61, for their first victory of the season on Saturday.

Jared Benson and DeAndre Taylor lead the ‘Cats in scoring after the first two games. Benson scored 26 points on the weekend while Taylor had 21. The ‘Cats have had balanced scoring in their first two games as six players are averaging more than seven points per game.

Spring Arbor is from Spring Arbor, Mich. near Jackson. The Cougars are affiliated with the NAIA and play in the Mid-Central College Conference. The Cougars are 3-4 on the season after losing to GLIAC North opponent Grand Valley State, 80-53 on Tuesday night (Nov. 16).
