MARQUETTE, Mich. – For the second weekend in a row, Northern Michigan University will host Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) playoff football. There will be three games in the Superior Dome, starting Friday as Mt. Pleasant Sacred Heart and Crystal Falls Forest Park meet in a Division 8 semifinal game at 7:30 p.m. There are two games Saturday. Up first is a Division 6 state semifinal game between Ithaca and Iron Mountain at 11:30 a.m. Grand Rapids West Catholic and Menominee meet in the late game at 2:30 p.m.
Crystal Falls Forest Park (11-1) is taking on Mt. Pleasant Sacred Heart (11-1) for a chance to advance to Ford Field and the state championship. CFFP has defeated Baraga, Lake Linden-Hubbell and North Dickinson to advance.
Ithaca is led by quarterback Alex Niznak who committed to play at Central Michigan. The Yellowjackets are 12-0 heading in the Saturday’s game. Iron Mountain enters the game, 11-1. The Mountaineers have defeated Calumet, Negaunee and Suttons Bay to advance to the semifinals.
Grand Rapids West Catholic (11-1) takes on Menominee who is 9-3 after defeating Morley-Stanwood 41-40 to advance in last weekend’s regional final. Menominee also defeated Reed City and Grayling this postseason.
Tickets for Friday night’s game are $6. Saturday, tickets are $7 and are good for both games.
