MARQUETTE, Mich. – Northern Michigan head women’s basketball coach Troy Mattson announced the signing of six players who will join the team for the 2011-12 season. Ashley Berth, Abbey DeBruin, Alyssa Colla, Eryn Maday, Sarah Miller and Courtney Lemon have all signed letters of intent to play basketball at NMU.
“The 2011 class has potential to be one of the best at NMU. We have added a lot of size along with some very skilled basketball players.” Mattson said.
A guard duo from Utica, Michigan headlines the future for the Wildcats. Eryn Maday is a 5-9 shooting guard. She averaged 18.6 points, 7.4 rebounds, two assists and 2.1 steals per game at Utica High during her junior year. Maday was selected Detroit Free Press All-State 5th Team. She was also the 2010 Macomb Area Conference White Division most valuable player.
Sarah Miller is a 5-8 point guard also from Utica. She averaged 9 points, four rebounds, 4.5 assists and four steals during her junior season at Utica High. Miller was a Detroit Free Press Honorable Mention, 2010 team MVP and First Team All-Macomb Area Conference White Division.
The class also consists of four very good players from Wisconsin. Ashley Berth is a 6-4 center from Green Bay, Wisconsin and plays high school basketball at Ashwaubenon High. She averaged 10.8 points, 7.1 rebounds and 2.5 blocks per game during her junior season.
Alyssa Colla is a 5-10 guard from Muskego, Wisconsin. Colla averaged 12 points, six assists, five rebounds and four steals during her junior campaign at Muskego High. She was an All-Conference second team selection.
Abbey DeBruin is a 6-0 wing/forward from Sherwood, Wisconsin. Her junior year, DeBruin averaged 10.5 points, seven rebounds and 1.2 blocks for Kaukauna High. She was a First Team Fox Valley Association Conference selection and also honorable mention All-State in Wisconsin.
Courtney Lemon is a 6-3 power forward from Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin. Lemon averaged 10.3 points, 6.5 rebounds and 2.1 blocks per game her junior year at Milwaukee Sussex-Hamilton. She was also a second team All-Conference selection.
