BAY CITY, Mich. – The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) honored four Northern Michigan University volleyball players in its postseason awards. Outside hitter Ana Lopes (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) was selected as the GLIAC Freshman of the Year, joining sophomore setter Abby Lovell (Leonard, Mich.) on the All-GLIAC First Team. Sophomore middle hitter Sami Vierk (West Lafayette, Ind.) was selected to the Second Team and junior middle hitter Emma Wolfe (Madison, Wis.) was Honorable Mention.
Ana Lopes played in all 27 matches for the ‘Cats and appeared in all but one set. Lopes leads the Wildcats in kills (298), digs (297) and service aces (49). She also has 32 assists and 32 total blocks.
Abby Lovell played in 25 matches as the team setter. She leads the team with 936 assists for an average of 10.17 assists per set. Lovell also has 97 kills, 21 service aces, 133 digs and 28 blocks.
Sami Vierk played in all 27 matches. She leads the team in kills (298) along with Lopes while hitting a .274 attack percentage. Vierk is second on the team in total blocks (55) with six blocks and 49 block assists.
Emma Wolfe appeared in all 27 matches and is third on the team in kills (260) while hitting a .242 attack percentage. Wolfe has 13 service aces, 36 digs and 14 blocks and 31 block assists for 45 total blocks.
NMU has been nationally ranked all season and finished the regular season 21-5 and 15-4 in the GLIAC. NMU defeated Tiffin 3-0 in the GLIAC tournament quarterfinal to advance to play Grand Valley State.
