MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University hockey team (3-5-1, 3-3-0 CCHA) hosts a pair of games against the Bowling Green State University Falcons (4-6-0, 1-5-0 CCHA) this weekend (Nov. 12-13). The puck drops each night at 7:35 p.m.
Last week the Wildcats split at Lake Superior winning Friday night’s game (4-1) and dropping Saturday’s game (3-1). BGSU also split in its latest action against Notre Dame last week, taking the first game (3-2) and losing the second (6-3).
Friday’s game (Nov. 12) has been designated as Military Appreciation Night. Military personnel and their families can purchase tickets to the game for $6. Tickets are available at all NMU tickets locations or at the door that night.
Events Friday begin with the Blue Line Luncheon at 11:45 a.m. in the University Center. The event is open to the public and the cost of the luncheon is $9 per person. NMU head coach Walt Kyle and selected Wildcats are scheduled to say a few words.
For NMU Tyler Gron (4-4-8) and Greger Hanson (2-6-8) share the team lead in points with eight each. Gron and Justin Florek each have four goals for the season for the ‘Cats to share the team lead. Three of Florek’s goals have been scored on the power play. Hanson leads the team in assists with six. Jared Coreau and Reid Ellingson have both seen action between the pipes for the ‘Cats. Coreau is 2-2-1 with a 3.26 goal-against average and a .915 save-percentage. Ellingson is 1-2-0 with a 3.77 goal-against average and a .881 save-percentage.
Leading the Falcons with nine points is Jordan Samuels-Thomas as he has three goals and a team-high six assists. David Solway paces BGSU with four goals. The goaltending duties have been split between Andrew Hammond and Nick Eno. Hammond is 2-3-0 with a 3.21 goal-against average and a .900 save-percentage. Eno is 2-3-0 with a 3.42 goal-against average and a .888 save-percentage.
After this weekend the ‘Cats will not be back at home again until Dec. 3-4 when they face the Western Michigan Broncos.
