HILLSDALE, Mich. – The No. 19 Northern Michigan University volleyball team lost 3-0 to the top team in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, No. 9 Hillsdale. The Chargers clinched home court throughout the next week’s GLIAC tournament with tonight’s win.
NMU fell to 20-4 and 14-3 in the GLIAC. Hillsdale continued its Division II best 23 match win streak, moving to 24-1 and 18-0 in the GLIAC.
The match’s scores (22-25, 24-26, 22-25) don’t reflect how the match was played. There were 37 total ties including 14 in both the second and third set. There were also 15 lead changes with seven in the second set and six in the third.
Emma Wolfe led the ‘Cats with 11 kills. Ana Lopes had nine kills, 12 digs, two service aces, a block and two block assists. Abby Lovell had 30 assists, three kills, and seven digs.
NMU recorded more total kills (40-38) than Hillsdale but also recorded more attack errors (25-15). NMU’s attack percentage was .125 compared to Hillsdale’s .225. The Chargers also had 14 team blocks compared to the Wildcat’s 5.
NMU travels to Wayne State for a match with the Warriors on Saturday (Nov. 6). The Wildcats then wrap up the regular season with a match at Findlay on Sunday (Nov. 7).
