MARQUETTE, Mich. – The No. 3 seed Northern Michigan University soccer team advanced to the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Tournament Semifinal after its 4-3 victory over sixth seeded Ferris State on Tuesday. The Wildcats will play Tiffin on Friday (Nov. 5) at 11 a.m.
Dana Stephens scored two goals and Brekelle Sellers had two assists to lead the ‘Cats to victory in the quarterfinal game played in Marquette. NMU is now 9-4-5.
NMU travels to tournament host Grand Valley State in Allendale, Michigan to take on the No. 2 seed Tiffin Dragons. NMU and Tiffin played once this season from Marquette with Tiffin winning 2-0.
Tiffin is 11-4-2 overall and got a first round tournament bye after finishing second in the GLIAC at 9-3-2. The Dragons ended the regular season on a three game win streak and a seven game unbeaten streak. Six players have scored five goals or more. Shelly Rogers leads the team with eight goals and seven assists. Goalkeeper Denis Resende is 9-3-1, holding a 0.83 goals against average and a .784 save percentage.
NMU has three players with five goals or more. Dana Stephens leads the ‘Cats with 11 goals and two assists. She has scored three goals in the last two games. Amelia Johnson has nine goals and Kari Buckel has five goals and six assists. Jessica Baker has played most of the games for the Wildcats, posting 0.99 goals against average and a .866 save percentage. Dana Bush was in goal for the quarterfinal game. Bush appeared in four games and has a 1.89 goals against and .806 save percentage.
Game time for the first tournament semifinal game is set for 11 a.m. Tickets are $5 for adults, $2 for students with IDs and $3 for senior citizens and children.

The second semifinal game features No. 1 Grand Valley State vs. No. 4 Findlay at 1:30 p.m. The GLIAC Tournament Championship game will be Sunday (Nov. 7) at 1 p.m.
