MARQUETTE, Mich. – The No. 19 Northern Michigan University Volleyball team hits the road for its final regular season road matches of the season. NMU is 20-3 overall and 14-2 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) as they travel to Hillsdale (Nov. 5), Wayne State (Nov. 6) and Findlay (Nov. 7). This is the first time NMU plays these GLIAC opponents from the South Division.

NMU is ranked No. 19 this week after receiving 224 total points in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association Top 25 Poll. The Wildcats were No. 17 last week.

NMU split a pair of matches over weekend when they traveled to Northwood and Lake Superior State. Northwood gave the Wildcats their second loss in a row winning 3-0 Friday from Midland. Saturday, the ‘Cats got back on the winning track with a 3-0 victory of their own over the Lake Superior State Lakers.

Sami Vierk was named in the GLIAC North Division weekly honor roll after leading the team with 20 kills over the weekend. Veirk (252) is second on the team in kills behind Ana Lopes (257). Lopes and Kalli Herron had 10 kills each at LSSU. Abby Lovell recorded 67 assists over the weekend and now has 792 on the season to lead the ‘Cats. Lopes also leads the team in service aces (42). She had five at Lake State.

Hillsdale is ranked No. 9 this week in the AVCA Top 25 and leads the NCAA Division II with a 22 match win streak. The Chargers are 23-1 overall and 17-0 in the GLIAC. 

Wayne State (12-11, 10-6 GLIAC) has won three matches in a row and are 4-4 at home this season.

Findlay (12-13, 6-10 GLIAC) has won two of its last three.

This weekend’s results will determine seeding and locations for next week’s GLIAC Tournament. Hillsdale is currently first in the GLIAC followed by Grand Valley State, NMU, Ferris State, Northwood and Wayne State. The top four teams from each division make the tournament with the top two from each division hosting first round matches.

Friday’s match in Hillsdale, Mich. is at 7 p.m., Saturday’s match in Detroit is 4 p.m. and Sunday’s regular season finale is at 2 p.m. from Findlay, Ohio.
