No. 17 Volleyball Back on the Winning Track

Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. – The No. 17 Northern Michigan University volleyball team snapped its two game losing streak with a 3-0 victory over Lake Superior State. The ‘Cats improve to 20-3 overall and 14-2 in the GLIAC. The Lakers dropped to 6-18 and 2-15 in the GLIAC.

NMU took the lead from the beginning and never looked back as they won set one 25-23. The ‘Cats went up 2-0 into the break with a 25-20 victory in set two. The Lakers fought hard in the third set when there were 11 ties and six lead changes. The score was tied 22 all before NMU took three of the last four points to take set three and the match.

The Wildcats were led by Ana Lopes and Kalli Herron who had 10 digs each. Sami Vierk contributed nine kills and five block assists. Setter Abby Lovell had 33 assists. NMU had eight service aces led by Lopes (5). Lopes also had 12 digs.

The Wildcats look to gain momentum going into the playoffs as they finish up the regular season next weekend with three matches at Hillsdale, Wayne State and Findlay.
