MARQUETTE, Mich. – The No. 17 NMU volleyball team traveled to Northwood Friday night and lost its second match in a row and third in the last five games. The Timberwolves took the match in three sets, 25-21, 25-19, 25-19.
The loss drops the Wildcats to 19-3 and 13-2 in the GLIAC. Northwood won its third in a row and is now 12-10 and 9-6 in the GLIAC.
Northwood dominated late in each set. Set one was tied 21-21 before the Timberwolves took the last four points. Set two was close again but the Timberwolves dominated late, taking seven of the last eight points to take the 2-0 lead going into the break. Northwood took the early lead in set three and NMU came back to tie but once again, the Timberwolves prevailed taking 11 of the final 14 match points.
NMU was lead by Sami Vierk’s 11 kills and Abby Lovell’s 34 assists. NMU hit a .176 attack percentage and had 20 attack errors. Ana Lopes contributed with six kills and eight digs.
The ‘Cats look to get back to their winning ways as they travel to Sault Ste. Marie to take on U.P. rival Lake Superior State tomorrow (Oct. 30) afternoon.
