MARQUETTE, Mich. – The No. 17 NMU volleyball team (19-2, 13-1 GLIAC) hits the road for the next two weekends to finish the regular season, starting at Northwood (Oct. 29) and Lake Superior State (Oct. 30).
NMU is ranked 17 in this week’s AVCA coaches top 25 poll. NMU received 301 points in voting. Last week the ‘Cats were No 15.
Last weekend the Wildcats wrapped up their home schedule hosting three matches when Ferris State, Saginaw Valley State and Grand Valley State came to Marquette. NMU won the first two matches against Ferris (3-2) and Saginaw (3-0) on Friday and Saturday. The ‘Cats lost their first home match of the season with a 1-3 defeat to Grand Valley on Sunday. NMU finished 11-1 at Vandament Arena in the regular season.
Sami Veirk was named in the GLIAC weekly honor roll after recording 31 kills over the weekend. Vierk is second on the team in kills with 232 behind Ana Lopes (241). Lopes had 30 kills on the weekend. Abby Lovell had 109 assists while Becca Feuerherd had 41 digs and Kalli Herron had seven total blocks on the weekend.
Northwood is 11-10 overall and 8-6 in the GLIAC. The Timberwolves have won two in a row and seven of their last 10. NMU defeated Northwood (3-0) earlier this season (Sep. 24) in Marquette. Match time for Friday is 7 p.m. from Midland, Mich.
Lake Superior State is 6-15 and 2-12 in GLIAC play. The Lakers have yet to win a home match and have lost two in a row and eight of their last 10. NMU beat LSSU (3-1) from Vandament Arena earlier this season (Sep. 25). Saturday’s match in Sault Ste. Marie is set for 2 p.m.
