MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University cross country hosted the U.P. Collegiate Championships Friday afternoon at the NMU Golf Course. NMU had four runners in the top 10, but that was not enough as the Michigan Tech Huskies took team honors with 23 points as the Wildcats were second with 33.
Christina Turman placed second overall with a time of 23:16.5 about six seconds behind the winner Deedra Irwin from MTU (23:10.8). Rita Woitas was next for the ‘Cats with a sixth-place finish (24:02.4). She was followed by Mandy Dye in ninth (24:16.8), Marie Helen Soderman 10th (24:19.9). Kristen Schulz placed 13th overall with a time of 24:31.7 with teammate Jordyn Ross two places back (24:53.3). Also in the top 20 were Olivia Juntila 17th (25:03.3) and Alicia Romano 19th (25:12.3).
Jess Krob placed 21st as she covered the course in a time of 25:34.0 and was followed by teammate Brittany Loomis (25:42.3). Kelsey Noah was 24th (25:51.2) and Karmen Whitham 25th (25:53.9). Also competing were Katie Holway 33rd (26:22.8), Libby Ellis 35th (26:45.3) and Rosie Frankowski 38th (27:08.5).
The ‘Cats will not compete again until the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Cross Country Championships which will be held Nov. 6 at Hillsdale College.
