Final Home Volleyball Matches

MARQUETTE, Mich. – The No. 15 NMU volleyball team (17-1, 11-0 GLIAC) returns home for the last time this season, playing three matches over the weekend against Ferris State (Friday), Saginaw Valley (Saturday) and Grand Valley (Sunday).

NMU is ranked 15 this week in the AVCA Coach’s Top 25 Poll. Last weekend NMU went 2-1 at the GLVC/GLIAC Crossover Tournament. The ‘Cats won twice on Friday; defeating Rockhurst (3-1) in the afternoon and Missouri-St. Louis (3-1) in the evening. Indianapolis handed the Wildcats their first loss of the season on Saturday, winning 3-0.

Friday afternoon’s win over Rockhurst was head coach Dominic Yoder’s 100th career win. Yoder is 76-37 at NMU and 101-41 overall, going into the weekend.

Emma Wolfe was named in this week’s GLIAC North Division Honor Roll. Emma Wolfe led the ‘Cats over the weekend with 41 kills and a .330 hitting percentage, she also had seven total blocks. Wolfe on the season now has 183 kills. Abby Lovell registered 130 assists over the three matches and now has 616 on the season. Lovell and Wolfe were both named to the GLVC/GLIAC Crossover All-Tournament Team.  

Friday NMU takes on Ferris State (11-8, 7-5 GLIAC) Friday (Oct. 22). The Bulldogs have won three of their last five. Match time is set for 7 p.m.

Saginaw Valley State (10-8, 5-6 GLIAC) comes to town for Saturday’s match at 4 p.m. The Cardinals have won four in a row, winning their three matches last weekend at the Crossover. There will be a pizza social after the match sponsored by Downtown Eyecare.

No. 22 Grand Valley (14-5, 10-2 GLIAC) comes to town Sunday (Oct. 24) for Senior Day. The Lakers have an eight match winning streak and have won12 of their last 13. Match time for Sunday is set for 2 p.m.

Outside hitter Katie Twardzik is NMU’s lone senior. Twardzik is from Laurium, Michigan and leads the team in blocks with 47. She is also fourth on the team with 94 kills.

Come support the Volleyball team for the last time from Vandament Arena and don’t forget about our special activities this weekend with Saturday’s pizza social and Senior and Parent’s day on Sunday.
