MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University hockey team will open up Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) play this coming weekend (Oct. 22-23) in Oxford, Ohio against the Miami RedHawks.  Play will begin at 7:35 p.m. each night. 

NMU is still in search of its first win for the 2010-11 season. The Wildcats are 0-2-1 entering the series against the RedHawks.    For Miami this series will also be the opening of conference play as they enter the weekend with a 2-1-1 slate.

NMU tied Michigan Tech in its last outing in Houghton by a score of 4-4.  The Wildcats were down to the Huskies 2-0 at one point and held a 4-2 lead.  Tyler Gron recorded a goal and two assists at MTU.  Miami in its last series defeated (6-3) and tied (1-1 OT) St. Cloud State on the road.

Gron (2-2-4) and Greger Hanson (0-4-4) share the NMU team lead with four points each.  Andrew Fernandez, Justin Florek along with Gron each has two goals on the season.  Florek has scored both of his goals on the power play.  Reid Ellingson has seen the most time in front of the net for the ‘Cats so far this season. His goal-against average is 3.80 with a .870 save-percentage. 

Leading Miami is Carter Camper, this week’s CCHA Offensive Player of the Week, with nine points on six goals and three assists.  Between the pipes for Miami look for Cody Reichard as he is 2-0-0 with a 3.08 goal-against average and a .877 save-percentage.  

 The ‘Cats are 30-17-2 all-time against the RedHawks which includes an 11-8-1 mark in Oxford.  Last year in Marquette the RedHawks took two from the ‘Cats (3-4, 1-2).  NMU is 2-3-0 in the past five games against Miami.
