BIG RAPIDS, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University soccer team played to its fifth tie of the season Sunday afternoon at Ferris State University with a 1-1 score. NMU’s record for most ties in a season was three which was set during the 2004 season. The Wildcats had the edge on shots at 19-15, but the Bulldogs had two more corner kicks than the ‘Cats at four to two.
NMU is now 6-3-5 on the season and 6-3-3 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC). Ferris is now 7-5-3 and 7-3-2 GLIAC.
The Bulldogs took the 1-0 lead on a goal by Bri Borgman at 23:40 of the game. About 30 minutes later (53:31), Amelia Johnson tied the game at one-all with her seventh goal of the season. Brekelle Sellers assisted on the goal. NMU had three shots in the first overtime period while Ferris had none. Ferris had a shot in the second overtime period while the ‘Cats did not record a shot.
Jessica Baker registered seven saves for the ‘Cats in front of the goal. Rachel McCollum for the Bulldogs had nine saves for the afternoon.
The ‘Cats have three games remaining in the regular season. Next weekend the ‘Cats take on Saginaw Valley State (Oct. 22 at 4 p.m.) and Northwood (Oct. 24 at 12 p.m.). Both games are on the road.
