KENOSHA, Wis. – After not competing for two weeks the Northern Michigan University cross country team did not show any signs of being a little rusty Saturday at the UW-Parkside Invitational. NMU had two runners in the top 10 and five in the top 20 as a team the Wildcats placed second with 62 points. Bellarmine won the invitational with 41 points.
Christina (Gillis) Turman led the way with a time of 19:07.7 which placed her eighth overall. Nora Kiilunen placed 10th with a time of 19:10.8. Rita Woitas was the next NMU runner across the finish line with a time of 19:27.7 (17th). The next two runners to cross the finish line were from NMU as Kristen Schulz (18th) and Mandy Dye (19th) ran times of 19:28.9 and 19:31.0 respectively.
The final two runners to sore points for the ‘Cats were Olivia Juntila (32nd) and Marie Helen Soderman (33rd) as they covered the course with times of 19:47.2 and 19:48.3 respectively.
Also running in the invitational, but not scoring any teams points were Alicia Romano (20:03.6), Jess Krob (20:06.2), Brittany Loomis (20:38.7), Kelsey Noah (20:48.3), Kristen Hoklas (20:50.8) and Katie Holway (20:51.5).
The ‘Cats have its lone home event of the year Friday (Oct. 22) when the team will hoist the U.P. Championships at the NMU Golf Course. Running begins at 4 p.m.
